You know what I find mildly surprising? One of the stereotypes about British people is that apparently they are not particularly good at cooking. Yet, there are so many British celebrity chefs out there! If the UK was trying to proof the world wrong – they did it successfully!

Jamie’s 15 Minute Meals

One of the UK’s most famous culinary exports is Jamie Oliver. I recently bought his famous 15 Minute Meals cookbook. I own a few Jamie’s cookbooks (I am mildly addicted to buying cookbooks), however I don’t use them very often. This was was on offer somewhere … probably at Asda. On a side note, whenever there’s a cookbook I’m after I check Asda, they often sell them cheaper than Amazon, Waterstones etc.

To be honest, I never expected to cook any of the 15 Minute Meals in less than half an hour. I like to be comfy when I cook and I take my sweet time. Usually, I take the tablet or the laptop to the kitchen with me and watch something while cooking. I’m currently re-watching Desperate Housewives which means that I may have to put down the ladle in those particularly dramatic moments ;)

Anyway, in the book it lists all the ingredients and utensils you have to have ready before you start cooking. Kettle boiled, oven pre-heated and so on. That makes it a little more realistic. Then again, the prep work is part of cooking, isn’t it?

Lamb Kofta in (almost) 15 minutes

Fair enough, it took me a little longer than 15 minutes to cook this dish but it wasn’t that far off. Moreover, it really looks and tastes like something that took significantly longer to prepare!

The sweetness of the pistachios together with the lamb kofta works very well with the spicy and minty couscous and the fresh salad. The different flavours and textures make this a beautiful plate of food!

Instructions
  1. Take a bowl and mix mince, garam masala and salt & pepper. Knead well and shape into 6-8 fingers.
  2. Heat up a drizzle of olive oil in a pan and fry the lamb fingers gently over hot heat until they turn dark.
  3. In the mean time, boil 150ml of water, add to a pot with the couscous, some salt and peeper and the chilli powder. Stir once, put the lid on and leave for 5 minutes.
  4. Coarsely chop all the ingredients for the salad and arrange on a plate.
  5. Add less than a teaspoon of lemon juice to the yogurt, season to taste, stir well and sprinkle over the salad.
  6. Take pestle and mortar and crush the pistachios (the finer the better). Add honey and thyme to the pistachios and cover the lamb fingers with it.
  7. Add mint sauce to the couscous, stir and serve with the salad and the lamb kofta.
